Breathing New Life To Old Tanktops As Shopping Bags...

every now and then everyone has to clean out their closets, and edit them. I have a mound of old tank tops that i cant wear because either they are now too small (yes, i've gained weight) or streched out/splotched/etc. i couldnt donate them, because who wants a stretchouts splotchy tank top? i didnt feel right throwing them away, nor did i feel like they were in such condition to be cut up to be used as dishrags yet.
i was surfing apartment therapy & instructibles, with all their great ideas... and i decided to turn the tops into reuseable grocery bags. easy to do: the arm holes are ready to be used as handles, and all you really need to do is just to sew the bottom opening... so... TADAAAA! a have a stack to use when i go grocery shopping (reduce plastic useage!) and they also work as lunch & emergency bags. nifty!

well... once they are falling apart even more, maybe then ill use it as a dishrag...

Feathery Headbands Massive... @ Fashionese Daily Gathering...

so the other day i met up with friends from Fashionese Daily forum at a gathering in Ke'Kun, Kemang... my bestfriend of uncountable years suggested that i should go ahead and sell my headbands to the girls there, so i spent saturday shopping at mayestik and then till 3am working on the feathers. i didnt have energy that night to finish the sewing part, so i decided to do that in the morning. when i got up i only had energy to do 3 headbands before i head to get my self together to go the the gathering. well, still i brought the unfinished pieces with me, just in case i have a chance to work on them...
apparently they loved it! i was so happy, and i sewed more than a few pieces on the spot for them...

thank you girls :)

A Feathered Headband

made this one day at work, inspired by a headband i saw in Lucky Magazine
bought all the materials at Mayestik, Jakarta, Indonesia...

all i needed was 25cm of feather strips (sold sewed/glued to a strip of ribbon), glue, felt, ribbon, black elastic, some thread, and a needle plus scissors... and also a little free time at the office...
i have since made 4 more for friends & cousins...

whites. the tops...

These are the white tops i have made...

first one was a mens wifebeater that i took out the shoulders and added lace straps and made it into a racer back tank

White loose pin tucked top using a thin gauzy fabric with multi-coloured pinstripes... the belt was made out of elastic & clasp found at toko Maju in Mayestik, Jakarta...

White tie neck long sleeve top in 2 different weaves & kangaroo pockets...

whites. the dresses...

here are the white dresses

the first dress i made a few months ago. a sunny dress in embroidered white cotton in floral motif with a corset tie back. doubles as a skirt...

A tunic in the same sort of fabric as above (except in paisley motif) using a pattern from burdastyle, not quite sure the pattern name, but extended it so it works as a dress as well...

white button up dress in striped weave, using a shirt pattern (also from burdastyle), and adjusted it to make it a dress...

whites. the fix-em-up tops...

to kick start my white sewing posts, these are the white tops that i have "fixed up" from older white tops...

sleeveless top with darts, remade out a short sleeve xl mens shirt from Suicide Glam that someone gave me...

sleeveless top made out of the fornt panel of a cardigan attached with a faux shirt front. made into a skirt backed sleeveless top with 3 different weave white fabics.

took an xl mens shirt that had a cigarette burn on one side of the chest and made some pin tucks along the front & neck/shoulders to hide the burn, as well as making the shoulders fit better...

An Attempt At Food & Event Styling

So, at work they were going to shoot a PSA for HIV in conjunction with the upcoming World AIDS Day (Dec 1, Peeps! dont forget to wear your red ribbon that day!)... It's a bbq of friends who are together and close, even though one of them is HIV positive...
Me & The Hungry Hippo signed up to do their set styling & food styling. of course I did the table setting and presenting, and THH did the menu and cooking. We went with bright red and
yellows in contrast to the green lush garden that was the setting for the bbq...

here are some pictures, enjoy!

Green Dress In Time For Bali! Yay!

tomorrow i will go to bali...
and because the producer that will be there gave me a pretty satin jumput/tie-dye/tritik fabric from when she was in sumatera, i decided that it will be nice to be able to wear that fabric at the nights we get to hang out (i cant wear it to work because its to dressy)...
so i made a dress. i used a pattern from burdastyle.com, the azalea...
yes i HATE sewing satin. the tye dye wasnt so bad, but the satin black lining is evil! i cant get satin to cut right and sew right at all! and because i have this fear of zippers, i gave the front a slit and ties with thin velvet ribbon

but its made, done, and wearable...

Reversible Jacket #2...

Ok, so tonight i plan to make a reversible jacket. part 2...
i based it on a shirt pattern found on burdastyle.com ... the emily shirt...
it is then altered to make the curved front shape and added a hood...
